Kids + Steps + Sweat = Healthier Brains

The title above is the bottom line of a 2018 Participaction report card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth. The report is fascinating and brimming with basic common sense. (Why do we so easily abandon common sense in the overwhelming presence so many electronic devises?) All parents, teachers and teens would do well to access this report card and read at least the highlights.

Preserving the Harvest – It's that Time of Year

These days normal February fare on our dinner tables is fresh lettuce and tomatoes. We don’t even consider it a luxury. We give no thought to the energy that has gone into the production and transportation of that food from California to our dinner table. But seriously, how long do we think we can continue our wanton consumption of fossil fuel – particularly when realistic, pleasant alternatives are available.

Record Breaking Heat – Climate Change?

We've experienced unusually hot weather. And its been dry, unusually dry. If you're like me, you wonder: Is this what climate change is going to be like for us? And the answer is: We don't know! We don't know, because that's not the way science works. Nevertheless when I see the smoke haze, hear and read about the wild fires in BC, and ponder our unusual weather, my mind goes to the climate change question. What kind of a world are we passing on to succeeding generations? Have we lived responsibly? Are we living responsibly?

Gabriel's Garden

On August 9th, SETI hosted a tour of a “food secure” garden near La Broquerie. Gabriel Gagné was our host and guide as we walked through his 0.18ac vegetable garden last Thursday. An experienced gardener, Gabriel is able to harvest many hundreds of pounds of produce each year, in the traditionally very poor soil of the Kokomo Road development.
