Woodmore WI Food Security Initiative - Upcoming Events
1. Our Annual Food Garden Tour is coming up quickly ... July 17, 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. We will begin at 6:30 pm, at Matt & Susi Teichrob's place. (Directions will be given when you register). Their orchard and garden is ever expanding, including trying a technique called Hügelkultur - where a mound constructed from decaying wood debris and other compostable, biomass plant materials is later planted as a fertile hilly bed. Next (7:30) we will visit Edwin and Aviel Janzen's new goat dairy called Creekside Dairy near Gardenton. Our tour will end (8:30) at Jenafor and Andy Siemens' off grid property near Woodmore. They raise most of their own vegetables in their very productive garden. Come and check out her sweet potatoes in active growth mode.... she told us about them at our May 1st garden workshop.
2. Thanks to those of you who responded to me regarding preserving methods you are interested in. Based on highest interest, we will build our August 15th Preserving Workshop around 4 methods. Susi Teichroeb will demonstrate pressure canning. Jenafor Siemens will teach about fermenting and dehydrating. Jenafor and her husband Andy will also show us their system for cellaring their winter produce. Registration is limited to 20 people, so register early to avoid disappointment. Our location will be at the Siemens' home - directions will be given when you register.
3. Our annual potluck Harvest Feast and Junior Gardeners Produce Display is scheduled for September 7th. Details to come.
