GROUP DISCUSSION: MANITOBA GREEN PLAN - Sept 12

Wednesday, September 12, 6:30pm: a meeting to formulate a response to the Manitoba Green Plan.

 

The Manitoba Government has begun a process of public consultation, seeking input on a "strong, leading edge law to replace The Sustainable Development Act to help build green prosperity in Manitoba."

MONTHLY MEETING: 23 AUG 2012 VISIT TO SARDIUS HOLSTEINS ORGANIC DAIRY FARM

Sardius Holsteins is a registered organic dairy farm just outside of Steinbach owed by Sam and Anne Appleby. They market their milk through the only organic milk processor in Manitoba Organic Meadow.

Organic milk is hard to find in Steinbach retail outlets.

The resons to consider organic are compelling and the challenges significant.

Monthly Meeting: 26 Jul 2012 Visit to Stonelane Orchard - Market Garden and CSA

We had a stimulating evening with Kim Shukla and Richard Whitehead.  We were impressed with their array of quality vegetables. Although Stonelane is not certified organic, Kim and Richard use chemical products sparingly. Various chemical herbicides are available that effectively control weeds, nevertheless Richard and Kim choose not to use them because of potential negative side effects.
