A Renewable Energy Show in Steinbach? Yes!

South Eastman Transition Initiative has invited southeast Manitoba's most exciting innovators and experts in renewable energy to a Renewable Energy Show at the Mennonite Heritage Village from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday, April 16th. This unprecedented event will see a full spectrum of local vendors assembled under one roof to share their experience installing geothermal, solar, wind and other emerging technologies, all specific to Manitoba.

Environmental Justice

We are frequently reassured that we live in a fair society, but the truth is somewhat different. Many of those who have failed to reap the benefits of modern industrial development are also the ones who have been most disadvantaged by the increased use of natural resources and pollution of land, air and water. This is not simply a case of the 1% taking from the 99% but the imposition of an additional burden that has effects such as reduced health and lower life expectancy.

Why a Renewable Energy Show

So why, you may ask, should anyone take an interest in renewable energies now, when non-renewable energy is the same price today that it was fifteen years ago and significantly cheaper than it was in 2008. Our Primeval Connection to the Land 

I believe we all search for a connection to the land. It is a primeval drive that is left over from our ancestors who had direct and obvious connections to the land. Their lives depended on how well their own crops and livestock fared. Our connection to the land is less direct because globally over 54% of the population live in urban areas (World Health Organization, 2014).
