Tourond Creek Green Drinks

Chris Randall beams as he demonstrates (in words) the new composting toilet at Tourond Creek, as we gathered for our monthly Green Drinks on Tuesday. The nature discovery site is managed by the Seine & Rat River Conservation District as an educational tool for students and local citizens alike. It boasts a lookout tower, picnic shelter, two composting toilets and a "critter-dipping" pond - all open to the public! Next time you're driving on Hwy 52 east of Steinbach, take the time to let the kids out and stretch your legs... you'll be glad you did! Green Drinks is held at various locations on the second Tuedsay of each month. See our calendar for details.

GreenSpace Options - Work Party Sat June 20

Thanks to everyone who attended the Opening Evening for the new GreenSpace Options site. Task Force members Jack Heppner, Jack Schellenberg & Ernie Klassen explained their plans and outlined the considerable work they've done already. Their well-planned methodolgy and careful record-keeping will ensure that this project will not only be attractive, but will also provide valuable information.

A NOTE TO ALL STRONG BACKS AND WILLING HELPERS:

On Saturday June 20th we're have a workday to spread compost to rejuvenate the grass and improve the soil conditions of our GreenSpace Options plot. This is a big job and we need all the help we can get! Bring your wheelbarrows, shovels and leaf rakes! Come for a few hours or the whole day. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Bring your own lunch.

Weed Tour (etc)

Retired U of M professor Gary Martens provided a tour and an evening of fascinating conversation at his small farm experimental property in Kleefeld last Tuesday. We learned about everything from the medicinal properties of common plantain to the plant-based polymers invented to make twist-off caps possible. Thanks to Gary and all attendees for another stimulating evening!
